STOP SELLING GRANDMA'S HOUSE
LEGACIES ON THE LINE. COMMUNITIES AT A CROSSROADS. WHAT WOULD YOU DO TO PRESERVE YOUR ROOTS?
A docuseries about memory, movement, and what we unknowingly lose when we are pushed to let go.
We’re kicking off our pre-campaign today on Juneteenth to honor our ancestors, our stories, and the spaces that hold them.
This story is personal. It’s about the home that’s been in the family for generations. The one full of photos, plastic-covered sofas, and stories never written down. The place we forever felt love and shaped who we would ultimately become.
Stop Selling Grandma’s House follows Black and Brown families as they face a question too many of us know: When at the crossroads of grief and loss do we sell our family home - or fight to keep it? What impacts are felt when we are forced to choose between a listing or our legacy?

Through real stories, raw interviews, and expert insights, this docuseries unpacks the emotional, generational, and financial impact of losing a generational home - and what it takes to protect it.
This is more than a documentary series about “gentrification”. It’s a conversation, a mirror, a movement to shift the status quo.
If you’ve ever lost a family home, or saved one. This is for you.
Why this Matters
This is a story born in the Bay Area, but resonates across the country.
Black families across the US are losing homes at staggering rates and being pushed out of their communities, due in part to systemic and predatory housing practices causing housing insecurities often accompanied without the understanding of the long-term costs. In Oakland, similar to other urban cities in the US, only 31% of Black residents are homeowners, compared to 63% of White residents. That’s more than a 30-point gap in ownership opportunities.
Legacy over Listings? We are Asking:
-
What’s the real cost of selling Grandma’s house?
-
What does it take to keep it?
-
How can we shift this pattern of loss, as a community?
-
If selling is the best and only option, how do you make your next move the best move for your legacy and family for generations to come?
Be a part of something bigger
We’ve pulled together both financial and community resources to film the pilot. Now we’re asking for your help to finish it. We are raising $50,000 in the months of July and August to finish the post-production which will allow us to host screenings this Fall accompanied by impactful panel discussions and the sharing of resources.
Back us to help bring this story to life.
